AI in Higher Education Talk for TAR UMT Media Faculty

On April 8th, 2026, I was invited by the Faculty of Communication and Creative Industries (FCCI) of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) to give a talk to the lecturers on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education, alongside Mr. Vicks Kanagasingam.

Some highlights of what I shared in the panel discussion:

  • Design assessment based on “process” (journey), not “product” (outcome).
  • Teach principles (such as storytelling skills for Advertising students) deeply, and tools lightly (like how to use AI video tools to produce ads, which students can master on their own).
  • While allowing students to use AI tools, ask them to share the prompts they rejected so we can review their thought process and their judgment.
  • Today, teachers and lecturers are curators, coaches, and bridges for college students.
