A Talk with Universiti Malaya’s Business Students

On 16 June 2026, I had the opportunity to deliver my first session under the ELITE@UM Fellowship programme at Universiti Malaya (UM), speaking to first-year business students taking Management Information Systems.

I shared how businesses today are leveraging data and AI-driven personalisation to drive growth, and how these technologies are reshaping the way organisations make decisions and engage with customers.

As always, the part I enjoyed most was the Q&A session.

Some students asked what the future of the software industry might look like in the age of AI. Others wanted to know how today’s students should prepare themselves for a world that is changing faster than ever.

There are no perfect answers to these questions. But I believe that regardless of how technology evolves, the ability to keep learning, solve problems, and stay curious about the world will become even more valuable.

Whenever I speak with young people, I am reminded of the mix of excitement and uncertainty they feel about the future. AI is undoubtedly changing many aspects of our lives and work, but it is also creating opportunities that previous generations could hardly have imagined.

I hope some of the ideas shared yesterday will help them navigate this new era with a little more confidence and inspiration.

My thanks to Dr. Suhana Bt Mohezar Ali (at the right in the photo below), Head of the Decision Science Department at Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Business and Economics, for the invitation and the opportunity to be part of this programme. I look forward to more conversations with the next generation of leaders and innovators.
